Monday Morning Thoughts As The Birds Wake Me Before My Alarms
A Morning Chronicle of Reflection, Resilience, and Creative Endeavors
This morning, I popped up—or rather, reached down—and grabbed the laptop that had "died" promptly at 6 pm, marking the end of my workday on Friday. I headed to my email to find a list of tasks awaiting my attention. The dance of juggling a multitude of responsibilities in a seemingly singular-focused environment never ceases to EXHAUST me. Perhaps that's the reason my body aches all the time. Maybe it’s time to consider investing in those Pilates classes I've been seeing the girlies take on TikTok.
As I slowly return to the social sphere, I find myself asking numerous questions. How do I want to present myself? To what extent am I willing to share? Additionally, how much energy am I willing to give to activities that stop my progress and significantly contribute to my lack of motivation?
Coming off an extended poetry and speaking sabbatical, I've been blessed enough to secure bookings for three shows this year so far, 2 of which are in February. Notably, 1/3 shows will be featured on Amazon Prime, so keep an eye out for that.
This upcoming week marks my second headlining show ever, ironically in Fayetteville, NC—AGAIN. I seem to find myself there quite often. The show, fittingly centered around Valentine's Day, so I’m planning on debuting some new very personal poems that I hope land on the hearts that need them, and give some lightness to the heart that penned them.
As I look at my color-coded Google calendars, I think maybe it's time to conduct an End-of-Day roundup, noting each of the accomplishments and things I got done that were not planned for the day. I don’t know about y’all but, despite the constant activity, there are moments of feeling inadequate, as if I haven't done enough.
Returning home late last night from Durham, NC, after hearing my amazing friend, TheNiaJ, SANG, I had ambitious plans to shoot three YouTube videos. However, the persistent twitch in my left eye and the fatigue that hit me on my climb up the stairs made it clear that video recording wasn't happening last night.
Nevertheless, those videos will be recorded today after my initial meeting at my white man’s gig. I plan to redo my makeup not only for the videos but also for the sheer joy of playing with makeup. Come hell or high water—more likely, an energy drink or matcha—these videos will be completed, edited, and published this week.
As you open your work materials today, I challenge you to nurture the neglected "interest gardens" that have gone unattended for a while. Alongside those videos, I am excited to crochet a sweater this week. What is something new that you plan on trying out this year?
